Why is my pond dirty?

There are many variables that could contribute to your pond getting dirty. The filter system you have may not be suitable for your pond. Lack of maintenance or incorrect maintenance of the filter system or UV bulbs needing changing will effect the cleanliness of the pond. Simple things such as too much sun light or too much food being added can also have an effect. If you’re still not sure reach out to LGS Ponds and we will gladly take a look.

What filter is best for my pond?

Every pond is different and what filter you will need is dependant on a number of things for example the set up and style of your pond, if your pond has a covering and even the number and type of fish will all have an effect!

We recommend doing your research to see what filter is best for your setup but if you’re still unsure reach out and we will be happy to help!

Do I need extra aeration in the summer?

Aeration should be used all year round and there’s no such thing as too much aeration. It’s not only for oxygenating the water but it helps lift any toxic gasses from the bottom of the pond and lift them to the surface to prevent a build-up and any potential harm this could cause to the fish. Aeration can also help in the winter time with movement in the water which helps prevent the pond from freezing over and harming the fish.

Is it safe to remove fish from the pond when doing a complete clean?

It is completely safe to remove fish from the pond when completing a clean, the water we have in our holding ponds is fully aerated and treated with dechlorinated chemicals and anti-stress to help keep them calm. We also complete a health check on the fish as we are removing them to make sure they don’t have any fin rot or ulcers etc and if so them we treat them accordingly.
